Improved workflow for Océ colour printers

Venlo, the Netherlands, 15 May 2006—ONYX Graphics version 7.0 colour production workflow software offers a host of features including improved workflow efficiencies, a new Flatbed Layout front-end, a new Variable Data tool for mass-customization, a new Media Manager module, better profile generation tools, a streamlined AutoUpdate function, easier installation and revised documentation. Feature improvements in ONYX ProductionHouse 7.0 Océ Edition are described below.
Improved workflow
In ONYX ProductionHouse version 7.0 Océ Edition, users will see improved workflow in Tiling and Nesting functions. Tiles can be processed individually, which offers two benefits: improved throughput because printing starts as soon as the first tile is processed, and saved RIP time when only one tile of an oversized print requires reprocessing.
A new Nesting function automatically rotates tiles and jobs for better media savings and print speed.
New layout front-end
The new Layout application provides WYSIWYG custom placement of print
jobs. Users visualize the flatbed table on-screen and place jobs, cut marks, crop marks and barcodes right where they are needed. This application also includes easy size, crop, tile and colour correction tools so operators can quickly prepare jobs and setup print frames.
Variable data tool
A new Variable-Data Tool in ONYX ProductionHouse 7.0 Océ Edition lets
users add variable text, images and barcodes to mass-customize batch print jobs. Users import data fields from database files and can preview the results on-screen before printing.
The Variable Data Tool is ideal for creating batches of customized print jobs such as signs, promotional items, advertisements and full-colour labels. Unlike other variable data tools, the ONYX workflow tool processes the background image only once, so a batch run of 10 or 1,000 different prints will start printing almost immediately.
New Media Manager
This version includes a redesigned user interface with a wizard-driven workflow
that reduces the time and effort needed to calibrate and profile media. A new profile grading system helps users select the right profile for their print application.
This module compares all installed media profiles and returns a report on how well each media works for print applications such as fine art, computer-aided design, signage, point-of-purchase displays, proofing, and photographic reproduction.
The new Media Manager is fully compatible with colour output, printer drivers and media profiles developed in version 6.5.
Better colour
ONYX ProductionHouse 7.0 Océ Edition includes ICC colour profile generation
with colour tools specifically designed for large format inkjet printing. These tools include proprietary GCR (gray colour replacement) controls that increase the colour gamut when using solvent and UV inks.
Improved AutoUpdate, easier installation
ONYX AutoUpdate is a free companion application to ONYX workflow software
version 6.0 or greater that checks the installed version’s software settings
and automatically downloads any needed updates. In version 7.0, ONYX
AutoUpdate has been improved to be more compatible with firewalls to ensure
smoother downloads. A new user interface has also been added. The installation process has been redesigned to offer a more intuitive interface and faster setup.
New documentation
Version 7.0 has a User Guide localized and available in more than 17 languages as well as an Advanced Manual in English.
Improvements for ONYX PosterShop
Users of ONYX PosterShop version 7.0 Océ Edition will also benefit from faster RIP speeds, media manager, documentation, installation and software
update improvements.
