Digital print system co-developed by Canon and Océ wins prestigious design prize
Océ VarioPrint DP Line receives iF Product Design Award 2012
Venlo, The Netherlands, 19 March 2012 — The Océ VarioPrint® DP Line has won a prestigious iF Product Design Award. These powerful black & white printing systems were co-developed by Canon and Océ to offer customers excellent image consistency, productivity, finishing options and sustainability. The iF Product Design Award, coming just six months after the series was introduced, coincides with release 2.1 of the Océ VarioPrint DP Line. Both the award and the new release underline the commitment of the compelling combination of Canon and Océ to continuously improve their products so that they meet a range of requirements spearheaded by the customers’ business needs.
It took Canon and Océ less than two years to co-develop the Océ VarioPrint 110 / 120 / 135. These light to mid production printers combine innovations like Océ DirectPress technology and Océ EnergyLogic with integrated Canon scanning and finishing solutions. The result is a highly configurable system offering excellent image consistency, instant productivity and multiple finishing options.
Innovations like these, however, do not win design awards on their own. A breakthrough print system has to take into account human values such as simplicity, effectiveness and a pleasant user experience, as well as meeting functional demands like print quality, productivity and versatility. Design is a way of shaping products so that users’ abilities, preferences, cognitive skills and cultural backgrounds are integral to design decisions at each stage of product development. Recognition by the iF award jury demonstrates that the Canon and Océ development teams are deeply committed to developing human-centered products.
Customers at the heart of our business
“The iF Product Design Award shows that both Canon and Océ’s ‘Stronger Together’ philosophy goes beyond developing products that make people and businesses more effective and efficient,” says David Preskett, European Professional Print Director, Canon Europe. “Customers remain the focus of our growing cooperation and that means meeting their human needs in addition to their commercial objectives.”
Nick Klitsie, Vice President Business Group Office and Printroom, Océ, agrees wholeheartedly. “We are delighted to receive the iF Product Design Award. The Océ VarioPrint DP Line offers customers a productive, flexible and sustainable system without sacrificing ease of use and user enjoyment.”
The Océ VarioPrint DP Line was introduced through Canon and Océ sales channels across Europe in September 2011. In the first six months, sales have exceeded expectations and market response has been excellent. With the recent 2.1 release, the system is being rolled out to the rest of the world with several feature enhancements based on customer feedback. This highlights Canon and Océ’s commitment to meet changing market requirements by translating customer needs into hardware and software functionality.
